Good Drums can make a record, and shitty drums can break your record. That’s the rule. Often times, a good EQ and some compression can do wonders for your drum sounds. BUT, if you want to take your drum shaping abilities a step further, here are a few plugins to give your drums that “extra kick” *knee slap*
P.S. I’m NOT getting paid to endorse anyone, these are just my honest suggestions.
1. Sausage Fattener by Dada Lyfe
What does it do well: Texture. Sausage fattener gives your drums a texture and bassiness that they might not have had before. And it goes without saying the the design is pretty cool (as your turn up the ‘color’ dial the sausage’s face gets angrier; sounds weird, but here’s a video that better explains it)
2. Decapitator by Sound Toys
What does it do well: Distortion bro, major distortion. Decapitator has 4 different presets that will color your drums in different ways and give it that extra texture that it might’ve been missing before.
3. MaxxBass by Waves
What does it do well: Makes low end frequenceis sound deeper Really good for an 808 that you want to have more bottom to it.
4. Renaissance Bass by Waves
What does it do well: It adds depth to your kick drums with a simple interfaces that shows you the intensity level, frequency your affecting, and most important of all whether or not the audio is clipping.
Like I’ve said before, these are cool tools to have but you don’t NEED them. But, if you’ve got a few bucks to spend, do your thing! Otherwise, trust your ears and not the equipment.
